Chief Accountant, Austria

An excellent opportunity has become available for a Chief Accountant to join my client, an international pharmaceutical company, based in Vienna, Austria.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organization with an annual turnover of almost €2 billion.  Within this broad role you will join an experienced team and be responsible for hands on local accounting such as bookkeeping, as well as operations / business control.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage financial and accounting activities
  • Perform documentary and financial control of accounting documentation
  • Record business events and close reporting period in the information system.
  • Calculate salaries, travel expenses and other refunds for the employees.
  • Calculate taxes, deferred taxes, contributions and other legal obligations in line with local legislation.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports on business operations in line with local accounting standards and other regulations and in line with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Prepare different reports, analyses on business operations for the needs of the company’s management and/or supervisory bodies.
  • Prepare the plan and estimates of the company and monitoring the company’s costs on a regular basis.
  • Organise the annual inventory of assets and liabilities.
  • Participate in external and internal audit, tax and possible other reviews and controls.

Required Experience:

  • Economics, business administration or other university education is essential.
  • Previous experience in accounting and finance, ideally within an international company.
  • Excellent knowledge of local and IFRS standards, fixed assets and inventory management, payroll and relevant legislation.
  • Experience of timely reporting for group and statutory purpose.
  • Excellent tax knowledge – monitoring of tax laws and accounting standards.
  • Experience in calculation of taxes and other levies, payroll.
  • Good knowledge of Austrian financial and payroll legislation.
  • IT skills in ERP (Dynamics 365 Business Central is an advantage) and internet banking.
  • Fluent English and German language skills are essential.
